Rural women have been especially invisible in the eyes of society. Their work in the vineyard in particular, and in the rural environment in general, was as silent, constant and undervalued as it was essential. In order to balance, only in part, this prolonged absence, this enclave dedicates a space of prominence to them.
The role of women in the traditional vineyards of our region was, in general, far removed from the work in the fields. However, their participation was indispensable in covering a less visible but no less arduous need, while at the same time taking care of the home and family. That circumstance could well be applied to the entire rural environment.
Over time, however, this circumstance changed and, although they began to take on other tasks, they did so while still maintaining their previous functions and working double shifts.
In order to make this reality visible and make it known, on 18 February 2022, a representative group of rural women from El Puerto, together with others from the region, held a day dedicated to giving light and fame to those who for years have played and continue to play this role in silence.
In homage, on that day, this area was reforested and baptised by them with the name of "Jardín de la Mujer Rural" (Rural Woman's Garden).
