Commercial offering in El Puerto de Santa María covers all types of establishments, markets, and shops, from small businesses to large retailers, spread throughout the municipality. Some of them sell typical local items and products, perfect for surprises when you return from vacation, or to take home as a souvenir of your visit to the city.
Buying food products that are part of our most typical cuisine is a good way to take home a souvenir of El Puerto. Some grocery stores, such as La Giralda or La Diana, in addition to selling a wide range of traditional products, maintain the essence of the old-fashioned bars named colmaos or tabancos, thanks to their tasting areas and counters that attract customers seeking out places with a long tradition.
There are other establishments specialized in gourmet products, located in different areas of the city, such as Spain Productos Gourmet (in the heart of El Puerto), Gourmet Puerto, and El Palacio del Jamón (the latter in Plaza de Toros and Vistahermosa areas).
When it comes to gastronomy in El Puerto, products related to the world of wine occupy a prominent place, available at traditional wine shops in the own wineries, such as Gutiérrez Colosía and Obregón, as well as in other spaces that combine tradition and avant-garde, such as the wine stores in Bodega de Mora de Osborne, and Caballero, in its facilities attached to the San Marcos Castle.
We can find the sweetest souvenirs in the convent's pastries, with a delicious selection of artisanal products available for sale on the monastery premises itself. In addition to the already renowned Cien Palacios artisanal `tejas´ from El Puerto, which have their own shop in the centre and are available in a wide variety of formats, ideal for taking as gifts.
Classic souvenirs also have a place in local shops. You will find shops in areas like Valdelagrana and the city centre where you can buy classic souvenirs with references to El Puerto de Santa María: Recuerda...El Puerto, Souvenirs Las Milagros, or religious-themed items inside the Minor Basilica Nuestra Señora de los Milagros itself.
In addition to large stores, the city has several shopping areas where you will find shops and establishments selling all kinds of products and goods. Particularly noteworthy are the old town, Avenida de la Libertad, and Avenida del Ejército, the latter adjacent to the Plaza de Toros.
Heading towards Costa Oeste, you'll find Vistahermosa Shopping Center, with many stores selling fashion, accessories, and home decor, among others, located in Avenida Juan Melgajero and other surrounding streets. In Valdelagrana, visitors will find everything they might need during their stay in the variety of shops located around Avenida de la Paz and Paseo Marítimo.
El Puerto has two large shopping areas with supermarkets, bazaar, decor stores, toy stores, leisure centres and restaurants, both located on the N-IV highway.
El Paseo Shopping Centre houses some of the most well-known fashion and accessories stores, perfumeries, and much more. Bahía Mar Shopping Park, located on the left bank of the river, stands out as a leisure centre thanks to the Next Level bowling alley and amusement arcade for all ages, and the Arte Siete Bahía movie theaters.
`The Conception Food Market´ was built in 1874 and is located in the city centre, surrounded by a typical commercial area known as `La Placilla´. A visit to this market is almost obligatory, both to stock up on fresh products and to enjoy its genuine atmosphere. It opens to the public every weekday, from 6.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.
The weekly market, popularly known as the `Gypsy Market´, is held every Tuesday, from approximately 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m., in Camino del Juncal. This location is temporary, pending its return to Paseo de José Luis Tejada, next to Playa de la Puntilla. You'll find stalls selling clothing, footwear, fabrics, jewelry, bags and accessories, household textiles, pickles, nuts and sweets, and more.
During the summer season, several craft markets are held in various areas of the city, such as Parque Calderón, the Valdelagrana Seafront Promenade, and Puerto Sherry, with stalls selling fashion, jewelry, crafts, and more.
Themed markets, such as the Medieval Market or the Christmas Market, are held annually, sometimes coinciding with major festivals. They are notable for their varied offerings and decorations, and are located around Plaza del Castillo.
The Artisan and Agricultural Food Market, held on some Sunday mornings at the entrance to Los Toruños Natural Park, is a must-see for lovers of artisan products and organic foods.
