“4 Ojos Wines” Cellar

Three female entepreneurs who started from a Dry Moscatel

This is one of those cases in which the potential of these lands to generate wealth and employment through wine is made clear. The richness of the land due to the mineralogy of the albariza soil accompanied by the climate of these latitudes and the potential of the land and due to the wealth of creative capacity and initiative of its human capital. Starting with Agustín Saucedo and the creation of the Higher Cycle of viticulture and continuing with the three enterprising women protagonists of this company: Lucía, Desirée and Olga.

In 2015, three students from the Higher Cycle of Viticulture at the Santo Domingo Secondary School in El Puerto de Santa María decided to undertake a project to put the knowledge they had acquired into practice.

The school provided part of the facilities to accompany and support the initiative, as well as monitoring and taking note of any needs that might arise for future entrepreneurial students.

The first challenge they set themselves was, no more and no less than, to make a dry Moscatel. This grape, Muscat of Alexandria, is traditionally used in the Jerez region to make sweet or very sweet wines because of its richness in sugars. After overcoming the "Setback", they began to grow from 1,300 bottles a year to around 15,000 bottles a year.

Its artisan winery uses the fruit from the Almocadén (Jerez), Balbaína (El Puerto) and El Duque (Trebujena) estates to make red and white wines, mainly from Muscat of Alexandria, Merlot and Syrah grapes.
